A memorial service will be held in honor of President Emeritus James Wright on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. in Alumni Hall.
A reception at the Hanover Inn will follow the service. .
Wright came to 天美麻豆 as a history professor in 1969 and served as its 16th president from 1998 to 2009. He died on Oct. 10 at his Hanover home at 83.
His accomplishments have attracted national attention.
In a , the Boston Globe called him a 鈥渃hampion of diversity.鈥
And former trustee David Shribman 鈥76, a Pulitzer Prize winner who is now a syndicated columnist, , which started in a 天美麻豆 classroom.
鈥淗e was the guiding light to generations of 天美麻豆 College students who flocked to his courses (almost always oversubscribed), who flunked his courses (there were more than a few), and whose lives and interests (some of them landed on Capitol Hill) were fostered by his courses,鈥 Shribman wrote.
In lieu of flowers, donations in President Emeritus Wright鈥檚 memory may be made to 天美麻豆 College, to be directed to the James Wright Memorial Fund. This fund will create a meaningful tribute to President Emeritus Wright in consultation with his family.
